Clarence E. Patterson – Smithfield

Clarence E. Patterson, 86, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family, Sunday, June 2, 2019.

He was the beloved husband for 63 years to Irene E. (Williams) Patterson. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Clarence E. Bishop and the late Lottie (Knowles) Patterson.

Mr. Patterson has been a Smithfield resident since 1967 and was a member of the Chepachet Grange. Mr. Patterson retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service. He served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, earning two Bronze Stars, Air Medal, six Army Commendation Medals and the Good Conduct Medal with Bronze Clip and four loops. After his military service, he worked with the U.S. Postal Service for 24 years, serving as Postmaster in Easton, Mass., for 10 years before retiring in 2000.

In addition to his wife Irene, he is survived by his children, Gale L. Pannullo of Cranston, Linda A. O’Neill of Coventry, Debra L. Patterson of Smithfield and Daniel B. Patterson of Tega Cay, S.C. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Doris Halliwell and Helen A. Petrie.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life Service with Military Honors, July 6, 2019 at 11 a.m., in the Tucker-Quinn Funeral Chapel, 643 Putnam Ave. (Rt.44), Greenville. Burial will be private.
