Winsor Avenue Sawmill Bridge closed

SCITUATE – Due to newly discovered advanced deterioration, officials from the Rhode Island Department of Transportation have decided to close the Blanchard Sawmill Bridge on Winsor Avenue over the Moswansicut Brook starting today, June 14.

RIDOT is scheduled to replace the 120-year-old bridge this summer, starting work in July and completing it by the end of the year, but decided to close it early due to its poor condition. The bridge already had a weight limit of three tons, and RIDOT narrowed it to one lane two years ago due to its poor condition.

Estimates to replace the stone masonry culvert re about $700,000.

RIDOT suggests that motorists use Hopkins Avenue, Hartford Pike (Route 6,) and West Greenville Road (Route 116,) to detour around the closure. Visit www.ridot.net/detourmaps to see the route.
