Cory’s Crusaders 5K schedules 7th annual race May 5 at BMR

BLACKSTONE – Cory’s Crusaders, a nonprofit charity which provides financial assistance to families of children battling brain cancer, will hold its 7th annual 5K Road Race & Walk on Sunday, May 5, at Blackstone-Millville Regional High School.

The opening ceremonies will begin at 9:30 a.m., and a half hour later, the road race will take place. Prizes, trophies, and two $500 scholarships (to one boy and one girl) will be awarded, and students in grade 9-12 from any school who register and complete the road race will qualify to win a scholarship. Along with the 5K and relay walk, there will be raffles, games, and a cookout with live music.

The fee to sign up is $25 ($20 for students), and runners and walkers who register by April 5 will receive a free event t-shirt.

The race is held in the memory of Cory Gaudet, who graduated from BMR in 2012 and passed away that summer after a battle with an aggressive brain tumor. In five years, Cory’s Crusaders has been able to financially assist over 180 families with more than $215,000 in financial aid. The charity has also funded $65,000 toward pediatric brain tumor research and $7,500 in scholarships through the Cory Edward Gaudet Memorial Scholarship Fund.
