Lincoln’s Blanchard pitches no-hitter, earns Ivy League softball honors at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – Lincoln resident Ali Blanchard, who is a freshman on the Princeton University softball team, earned the Ivy League Pitcher and Rookie of the Week softball honors on Monday after throwing a no-hitter the previous afternoon in an 8-0 victory over Towson University in Clearwater, Fla.

Blanchard, who graduated from Moses Brown last spring after winning the R.I. Gatorade Player of the Year Award and helping the Quakers capture the state title, struck out 15 batters in 11 innings last weekend. She fanned eight in a five-inning outing last Saturday against Buffalo before striking out six in Sunday’s no-hitter.

The Buffalo game began with Blanchard striking out seven batters over the first four innings, while giving up two walks and two hits over that span.

In the Towson victory, the only runners Blanchard allowed were on three walks, with just one of those getting as far as second base on a third-inning sacrifice fly. Blanchard struck out seven, with six of those coming between the fourth and sixth innings.
