honors at RIMA swim meet

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The North Providence Barracudas youth swim team ended its season on a high note by earning a fourth-place finish at the RIMA (Rhode Island and Massachusetts) Championships that were held on Sunday, March 10, at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth’s Tripp Athletic Center.

RIMA All-Star recognition was presented to the swimmers and relay teams that finished among the top five in their respective events, and of the 46 Barracuda swimmers who competed in the meet, 35 achieved All-Star status.

Two swimmers will also be competing at the Boys & Girls Club National Championships on the weekend of April 5-7 at the Northshore Aquatics Center in St. Petersburg, Fla., North Providence High freshman Cassie Russo in the girls’ 13-14 division, and Joseph Beauvais in the boys’ 15-18 division. They will join swimmers from the Fox Point, Fall River, and East Providence Boys & Girls Clubs and the Jewish Community Center to form a RIMA national team.

Here’s a rundown of the swimmers and relay teams who claimed top-five finishes:

9-10 Girls

100 Medley Relay – 1st place, 1:13.07, Madison Gianardi (backstroke), Sofia Benevides (breaststroke), Patricia Oussi (butterfly), and Emily Pace (freestyle).

50 Freestyle – 4th place, 35.04, Pace.

100 Individual Medley – 1st place, 1:29.76, Luisa Guo.

100 Individual Medley – 2nd place, 1:30.43, Oussi.

50 Butterfly – 2nd place, 42.73, Oussi.

50 Backstroke – 2nd place, 42.15, Pace.

50 Backstroke – 3rd place, 42.37, Guo.

50 Backstroke – 4th place, 42.45, Gianardi.

50 Freestyle – 1st place, 28.74, Cortes.
