Pacheco: Old Smithfield Road proposed solution flawed

Town Council : June 19th Meeting

The Town Council's proposed solution to the traffic problem on Old Smithfield Road is flawed. It is flawed in that the Town Council is acquiescing to a few vociferious residents rather than considering the opinions of all those affected by making the road a one way.

Options have been presented. One suggestion is to put in speed humps at various sections of the road. These have been successful in surrounding communities.

Another option is to have a 3 to 6 p.m. closing at the Sayles Hill Road entrance with a police presence.

Third is to close the Sayles Hill Road entrance completely. This option would affect the school bus route, the mail delivery route and all other deliveries. All of this would, of course, affect the culvert.

The one-way traffic would have a significant impact on my legal agricultural businesses that have been in operation since 1977 and 1985.
