Boy struck by car in Pawtucket

PAWTUCKET – An 11-year-old boy struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Newport Avenue and Robinson Avenue Tuesday afternoon is in stable condition and expected to recover, according to police.

At around 3 p.m. Pawtucket police responded to the intersection for a report of a vehicle striking a child and then crashing into a building. Officers found the boy lying in the roadway on Newport Avenue and a Toyota Camry inside of the building at 1143 Newport Ave. The boy was conscious and alert and was transported from the scene to Hasbro Children’s Hospital. At this time, said police, it appears the victim has no serious injuries and is in stable condition.

The driver of the vehicle was stuck inside her vehicle and had to be extracted from the vehicle by the Pawtucket Fire Department. She was transported from the scene to Rhode Island Hospital, where she is in stable condition with no serious injuries. Pawtucket police detectives and the Rhode Island State Police Traffic Reconstruction Unit are investigating the cause of the accident. Any charges will be determined at the conclusion of the investigation.
