DEM hosting fly-tying workshops and fishing clinic this month

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management is hosting a series of free fishing fly-tying workshops for novice and experienced fly-tiers, as well as a fly-fishing clinic, this month.

A local fly-tying workshops will be held on Tuesday, June 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Glocester Manton Public Library, 1137 Putnam Pike, Chepachet.

Workshops will also take place on Wednesdays, June 21 and 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Greenville Public Library, 573 Putnam Pike, Greenville.

Instruction on freshwater angling will be included, and all equipment and materials will be provided. Participants are welcome to bring their own materials.

Children age 10 and older are invited to participate. Space is limited and registration is required. Contact Scott Travers at Scott.travers@dem.ri.gov .

Also, DEM is hosting an Introduction to Freshwater Fly-Fishing clinic this Saturday, June 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Addieville East Farm, in the Mapleville village of Burrillville.

Families with children 10 years and older can learn about fly-fishing equipment, fly-tying, fly-casting, and the best fishing areas in Rhode Island during this six-hour workshop. Lunch and equipment provided.
